Event Details

You are cordially invited to the monthly (September) meeting of the DC Metro Final Cut Pro Users Group.

Over the course of the summer, we've been busy with various projects and connecting with new Washington Metro creative talented professionals and with sponsors. One of those talented production professionals is Dennis Boni. As an editor, we know the flexibility in the edit suite is only as good as the content's quality.

Be prepared to ask questions and in the process, learn what editors need to know to communicate to production teams who create all that wonderful content you get to cut in the edit suite. You’ll be surprised how much influence editors can have on the selection of the formats, cameras and specifications. It can make the difference between getting higher quality gear at near the same price as lower quality gear for the acquisition phase of production. This is one of the reasons I strive to educate our community on the technical aspects of creative filmmaking as well as the creative side. Dennis is talented at both sides. Come on out and meet him and stump the experts!

Dennis Boni is a world renowned Director, DP and Cinematographer from Maryland and worked with me on the set of the Hollywood Feature film - "At the Top of the Pyramid" during this summer (June/July 2010).

Matt Damon

He has shot footage from the Hollywood A-List (Matt Damon, etc) to the current First Lady of the White House (Michelle Obama).

Michelle Obama

Spending six weeks in the field learning from a DC Metro seasoned pro is invaluable and I am glad I pushed myself to gain that exposure, learn a tremendous amount in the production cycle and meet new friends in the process.  The September agenda will hold the details of his talk and I would highly encourage you to clear off your schedule to get the opportunity to meet, learn and connect with one of our own regional, creative giants in the industry.

Secondly, our platinum sponsor, AJA Video Systems is back this month to talk about the KiPro and its ability to help us navigate the different cameras, formats, recording media and compression schemes. As promised, some very lucky DC Metro Final Cut Pro User Group member will be the WINNER of a brand new KiPro unit during our special GRAND PRIZE raffle during this month's event (valued at over $4,500)!!!

In addition to the Grand Prize raffle, we will be holding our monthly Winner's Circle Raffle that encompasses all the other awesome creative prizes.  Navigate to the DCFCPUG.ORG site to find the agenda and raffle prize listing when posted and explore the site.

This will be an exciting time to learn, connect and participate in YOUR regional FCP group! Tell all your friends to sign up early as this will be a SELL-OUT event and I would highly recommend you register EARLY and spread the word via all social media channels!

Arrive at 6 pm for our networking time (with food and drinks) and meet your Metro area creative professionals. Your next gig might come from someone you've met.  I'm living proof of this concept.  Just look at the projects this user group has been involved in so far during 2010!...

  • National Association of Broadcasters (NAB)

More on the AJA KiPro:

Everyone from broadcasters to indie filmmakers can probably agree on one thing: the possible choices for image acquisition are daunting. Different cameras, different formats, different recording media and different compression schemes. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to simplify acquisition so that virtually any camera, digital or analog, could record the same format and resolution? Enter the AJA Ki Pro.

The AJA Ki Pro is a tapeless video recording device that records high-quality Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime files onto computer-friendly media. Because it features SD/HD-SDI, HDMI, and analog inputs, you can interface with virtually any type of camera you might own or rent. Enjoy monitoring flexibility through Ki Pro's numerous simultaneous outputs, connecting to both professional and consumer monitors.

Ki Pro is portable and rugged; designed for real production environments. With the optional exo-skeleton it can sit below your camera-out of the way of your battery adapters, wireless mics and other accessories. Integration with your other production gear is seamless.

Ki Pro is intuitive to operate. Alongside the camera, the familiar VTR-like buttons provide immediate controls for basic operation. From a distance, use a web browser via ethernet or WiFi to control operations from a laptop or iPhone.
